American Husband Of Nigerian Woman Laments ‘Immigration Policy Of 15-Years Wait To Secure Nigerian Passport’

An American man married to a Nigerian woman has expressed frustration over Nigeria’s immigration policy, which requires him to reside in Nigeria for 15 years to secure a Nigerian passport.
BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that the claim though not independently verified, has sparked outrage after the man, simply known as Oyinbo, criticized the difficult process of acquiring a Nigerian passport despite being lawfully married to a Nigerian lady.
In a viral video spreading on social media, the obviously upset man was shown with his Nigerian wife criticizing the country’s immigration policies, particularly as it applies to foreign husbands of Nigerian women.
According to his findings, there is a significant discrepancy in the process: a foreign woman who marries a Nigerian guy can swiftly receive Nigerian citizenship and, subsequently, a passport. However, a foreign man married to a Nigerian woman must reside in Nigeria for at least 15 years before becoming eligible for the same privilege.
“It’s not right,” he said, pointing out that he is legally married to a Nigerian woman, and they have two children together. However, he continues to face hurdles in becoming recognized as a Nigerian.
His wife also expressed her discontent, suggesting the policy is discriminatory and outdated.
The couple called on the Nigerian government to review its immigration laws to reflect fairness and equality, especially in today’s global world where cross-cultural marriages are increasingly common.
The video has since sparked discussions online, with many Nigerians echoing the couple’s sentiments and calling for reform in the nation’s immigration and citizenship laws.
