BREAKING: Explosion Hits Rivers State Amid Impeachment Saga

Published

on

A devastating explosion has been reported at the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The blast, which occurred late Monday night, March 17, near the Bodo-Bonny Road currently under construction, sent thick black smoke billowing into the air, with a raging fire spreading rapidly into the mangrove.

The affected section of the major pipeline is currently engulfed in flames, but the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown.

Authorities are investigating whether the incident was a result of human interference, particularly in light of recent threats by militant groups to attack oil installations.

The Trans-Niger Pipeline is a critical export pipeline that transports crude oil to the Bonny Terminal.

The pipeline is a federal transport line that supplies oil to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State.

The police are currently investigating the incident, but no official statement has been released yet.

The Police spokesperson in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to look into the matter and provide an update.

The explosion has raised concerns about the potential involvement of militant groups, who have threatened to attack oil installations in response to the Federal Government’s withholding of Rivers State’s allocation due to the ongoing political crisis.

The incident is coming a day after the Rivers Assembly lawmakers commenced an impeachment process to remove the governor, Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
