Late Nigerian comic actor John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu

More details have emerged how ailing Nigerian comic actor, John Okafor, aka Mr. Ibu, passed away on Saturday.

He died at 62 years old.

According to multiple reports from sources close to him, the veteran comedian passed away few days after he was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Evercare Hospital, Lekki, Lagos

His manager of 24 years, Mr Don Single Nwuzor, disclosed that Mr Ibu died after suffering cardiac arrest.

A close associate of the family disclosed that the comic actor had a relapse about a week ago and had to be rushed to the highbrow hospital where he finally lost the battle for life.

Commenting on Mr Ibu’s passing on his Instagram page on Saturday, National President of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, said: “Sad Day for Actors Guild of Nigeria. Kate Henshaw lost her mother earlier today and Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager of 24 years, Mr Don Single Nwuzor.

Many fans have shared condolences on X, reminiscing movies the late actor has featured.

There were reports in December 2023 that Mr Ibu underwent another leg amputation and was barely able to talk, as the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) revealed, while calling for prayers and support for the veteran.

According to SaharaReporters, in November the family of Mr. Ibu revealed that the actor had undergone seven surgeries but to keep his hope of staying alive, one of his legs was amputated.

The family had said the actor successfully underwent five surgeries and would be flown abroad for further treatment before he finally passed on.
