2023 Guber: We’ll Rescue Delta, Develop Infrastructure Of Enviable Proportion – YPP Guber Candidate, Ofehe

Comrade (Chief) Sunny Ofehe, the governorship candidate for the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Delta state, has said that when elected as governor, he would develop infrastructure in the state so that Delta would become an enviable state.

Ofehe stated that, if elected, he would turn the state into the California of the West African Coast and the largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa.

He spoke at the Iyede Town Hall while addressing hundreds of party members and supporters who had gathered in large numbers to welcome him at the PTI junction on their way to Iyede, his country home, where he was given a grand welcome upon his return to Nigeria from Europe.

Ofehe said that the PDP and APC, the two major political parties in the nation, don’t deserve to have any of their governorship candidates elected to office in 2023 because, in his view, the political parties have failed the nation and its people. 

He said that the APC has performed poorly at the national level, given the state of the country’s infrastructure, particularly the roads, which are one of the fundamental things any responsible government should provide its citizens. 

The Netherlands-based environmental rights activist cum politician, said that elected officials who have held political office through an election or appointment and who have reached the pinnacle of their careers without having anything noteworthy associated with their names as a commendable project shouldn’t be trusted with higher office.

“Those who couldn’t use their federal power to advocate for the improvement of the East-West road, particularly the Warri-Sapele-Benin expressway, should be paid back with zero votes in 2023,” he said. 

“Whether they refer to it as a federal road or not, the Warri-Sapele-Benin expressway’s appalling condition is a vote of no confidence in the Okowa-led administration and the federal government.

“What should I be doing in Government House if as a governor I can’t muster the political will and resources to handle that road and improve life for my people?” 

“Take a look at the ecological crisis that Nigeria is presently experiencing; the current flooding is a man-made crisis. The federal government was aware of what needed to be done and what went wrong, leading to the flooding of the entire nation, but they were either adamant or unsure of what to do, or better yet, they simply wanted to be cruel to the populace. 

“It is high time for us to start holding our leaders and government responsible for their mistakes and shortcomings.

“If I am elected governor of Delta State, we will assemble the top construction firms to construct and repair our roads, and if it is a federal road, I will fix it so that it alleviates the suffering and distress our people experience along the route. 

He said that in the event that his efforts are thwarted, he would file a lawsuit against the federal government to continue the project and file a new lawsuit to recover the money expended on the project.

“I come from a human and environmental rights background and I’ve spent 26 years outside this country; so I am very well-exposed.

“I have the knowledge and exposure, and I have seen how democracy can work. I have seen how people can enjoy the dividends of democracy, and that is what our leaders don’t have.

“That exposure to attract foreign investments that can revamp all our decaying infrastructure and create jobs for our people is what I stand for and that is my motivation.”

“That is why in this election, I believe that I am the most qualified.” Forget about the size of the PDP and APC. We should look at the quality of the contestants. We are tired of the status quo.

“My election will not follow the normal norm. The normal norm called “experienced politicians’ is the people responsible for where we are today.

An elated Ofehe urged the people to reclaim their state from the PDP by giving the mandate to him as the next governor of the oil-rich state.

“In order to elect a credible governor, we must throw out the mediocrity that has clouded our politics of “turn by turn,” he said, urging Deltans to vote for him as the only credible candidate who is aware of what needs to be done to create a state that will be the envy of others by 2023.

Ofehe expressed delight at the reception he received from party members at the PTI junction in Effurun and Iyede, his country home in Isoko North council area, saying that their steadfastness, patience, and shared sacrifices of waiting in the hot sun for him to arrive further demonstrate their willingness to alter the narrative.

He thanked party members and officials for their faith in him to bring the dividends of democracy to the people, and if elected, he vowed to bring back government accountability.

The governorship candidate had earlier received the royal blessing from HRM Isaac Ovieimo Okpakpor, The Oba (regent) of Iyede Kingdom, who described him as an illustrious son of the Kingdom.
