More facts have emerged on how the Nigerian government, through the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing spent N82,264,000.00 to construct a single security gate at the Federal Polytechnic Adikpo in Benue State, according to a report published by a budget spending and monitoring platform, BudgIt.

The contract was awarded to M/S Nartdana Investment Limited under the Sustainable Development Goals – SDGs.

It was gathered that the Ministry of works paid the sum of N41,132,288.05 in December 2020 for the project, and in June 2021, it paid the sum of N41,132,288.05 for the same project totaling an amount of N82,264,576.1

The payment has since been published on https://www.govspend.ng/ a BudgIt platform that shows spending and payment on government spending.

Under the deal, the Ministry of works paid the sum of N41, 132,288.05 in December 2020 for the project, and in June 2021, it paid the sum of N41, 132,288.05 for the same project totaling an amount of N82, 264,576.1.

A further examination of the portal reveals that the Ministry of Works may have inflated the figure in addition to making double payments for a single project.

Civil engineers who spoke with a group, the MAWA Foundation, said the money could have been used to build a department in the school and questioned why such a large sum was used to build a single security gate.

Mr. Monday Ugba, a civil engineer who spoke to MAWA and claims to have built similar gates, for example, claims that amount is excessive and unbelievable. He accused the government of inflating contract figures, which he claimed was motivated by corruption.
