Former Chief of Staff to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Olorogun David Edevbie and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant and Serving Senator, James Manager, also an aspirant, have reacted to the outcome of the party’s governorship primary won by Delta state House of Assembly Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori.

BIGPENNGR.COM had reported that the primary was won landslide by Oborevwori touted as Governor Okowa’s preferred choice against Edevbie who was supposedly backed by James Ibori, a former governor in the state and Manager who was also believed to be a plan ‘B’ choice of Governor Okowa.

The returning officer for the primary, Ndubisi Nwobu, declared Oborevwori as the winner and candidate of the PDP for the forthcoming 2023 general elections amidst jubilation by supporters.

Oborevwori polled 590 out of 825 votes to beat the former commissioner for finance, Edevbie, who was the anointed candidate of former governor Ibori.

Edevbie got 113 votes to clinch the second position while Manager polled 83 votes to come third position.

Reacting to the development, Edevbie who didn’t acknowledge the winner of the primary election, admitted that the outcome was ‘unfavourable’ but noted that he remain humbled by the immense goodwill shown to him across the entire State.

“I thank all Deltans and members of our Party, particularly the youth, for your enthusiasm and support through the process, he said.

Edevbie reassured of his commitment to the state, saying “We are driven by the vision and a strong passion for the development of our dear State, and we remain encouraged that most Deltans share in this vision”.
The former chief of staff neither speaks on the winner of the primary nor acknowledge Governor Okowa in his statement but maintained that ‘though several unsavoury factors came into play in our politics’, particularly over the last few months, we remain steadfast in our aspiration for a modernised Delta to be bequeathed to the next generation.

In a related terse message on the outcome of the governorship primary, Manager who has been in the senate representing the people of Delta South senatorial district since 2003 described Okowa as a “brother and wonderful friend”.

Manager who came third with 83 votes out of 825 delegates votes, thanked his wonder friend’s governor for all he has done for, and with him.

“I want to thank God Almighty for his mercies and grace upon my life. I also want to thank my teeming-supporters, and well-wishers for standing and identifying with me in these times. Finally, I wish to particularly thank my brother and wonderful friend, H.E Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for all he has done for, and with me. Yesterday has come and gone, Today is with us and tomorrow is yet to come. God bless Delta and her People”, he wrote in his verified Facebook page.
