BIGPENNGR.COM reports that the development became necessary as the Urhobos of Delta Central are desirous to produce the next governor of the state but the large number of aspirants from the district gearing up for the position in both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), main opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) and other opposition party appear to be a source of worry for the traditional rulers of the district.

Arising from a meeting with the aspirants at the palace of Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, the Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council, (Ukoko r’ Ivie r’ Urhobo), mandated all Urhobo sons and daughters contesting for the 2023 governorship election in Delta State to urgently harmonise to reduce the number of aspirants in the race ahead the party primaries.

The Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty, King Obukohwo Monday Whiskey, Udurhie 1, who addressed newsmen after the meeting with the aspirants, said that the Council has directed the aspirants to meet along their political parties and select the best hands to fly the flag of their parties in the 2023 governorship election.

Emphasizing that it was the turn of Delta Central to produce the next governor of Delta State in the forthcoming governorship election, Udurhie said the essence of the directive was to enable Urhobo aspirants emerged governorship candidates of the various political parties.

He said that it was their duty as royal fathers, in line with the directive to reduce their numbers ahead of their primaries, to counsel them to ensure that the next governor of Delta State hails from Urhobo Nation.
