  • Passes Vote Of Confidence On Delta NUJ Council Chair, Ikeogwu

As politicking gathers momentum ahead of the 2023 general election, the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has urged political gladiators in Delta State to refrain from making “statements” capable of heating up the polity.

The chapel made the call in a communique signed by its chairman, Comrade Victor Okpomor and its Secretary, Comrade Dele Fasan shortly after its first 2022 Congress held at its secretariat in Warri.

The chapel enjoined politicians in the state to be mindful of their utterances and actions to avoid pitching one ethnic group against the other ahead of the 2023 general elections in the State.

The Congress, also urged journalists in the state to restrain themselves in their reporting and from acts capable of causing disaffection in the state, particularly between officials of the Delta Government and members of the NUJ Delta State Council.

The call is coming on the heels of recent attacks on the person of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, the NUJ State Council Chairman by some members of the Union with intent to pitch him against officials of the Delta State Government.

The Chapel enjoined journalists to engage themselves in endeavours that would promote unity and cordial relationship among members.

Consequently, the Congress, passed vote of implicit confidence on the Chairman of the Delta State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Ikeogwu who is a member of the NUJ Warri Correspondents Chapel for his dogged leadership in managing the affairs of the council.

Continuing, the communique commended Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State, for his efforts at developing the state and charged him not to relent in his determination to finish strong.

The communique, further called on the Delta State Government to use the opportunity of the dry season to complete all ongoing projects in Warri, Effurun and environs especially drainage and road projects, as well intervene on failed portions along Airport Road, Effurun Roundabout, 1st Marine Gate, Jakpa Junction, Enerhen Junction, and Ogunu By-Pass.

It also called on the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) to wake up to its responsibility by ensuring smooth flow of traffic within Warri and it’s environs, particularly, Effurun roundabout Enerhen Junction and Jakpa Junction where traffic gridlock is causing serious pains to motorists and commuters.
