Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State has said that though he has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), he’s yet to join any other political platform for his reelection bid.

Obaseki who was rumored to have met President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday before announcing his resignation from the APC, however explained that he only met with Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Chief of Staff to President at the Presidential villa, Abuja.

After his controversial disqualification by the APC screening committee, Obaseki was reported to have commenced high-stake consultations for the next step to take by reaching out to his colleagues Southsouth PDP governors.

It was widely reported that he was given conditions to join the opposition party, PDP.

In a tweet on his verified twitter account this morning, Obaseki said he was yet to moved to a new platform contrary to insinuations making the rounds that he had joined the PDP in his ward.

According to him, his main focus is how to control the spread of the coronavirus disease which is ravaging the state and the country.

BIGPEN reports that Edo state currently has 620 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 445 active cases, 150 recoveries and 25 deaths.

“I have not moved to a new platform yet to seek re-election. My focus now is to control the spread of the coronavirus (#COVID19) pandemic, which is ravaging our country and threatening our healthcare system. Stay safe.

In an earlier tweet, Obaseki wrote: “I have officially resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress (@OfficialAPCNg) after meeting with the CoS to @MBuhari. We shall continue the battle to protect the interest of Edo people and sustain good governance in the state”.

BIGPEN had reported that Professor Ayuba Jonathan-led APC screening committee had last week disqualified Governor Obaseki on alleged discrepancies in his educational certificates.

The Committee why explaining reasons for disqualifying Obaseki had said: “Though, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki in his nomination form claimed to have obtained a Higher School Leaving Certificate from an Institute of Continuing Education, Benin. It was observed however that no educational certificate such as HSC is known in Nigerian educational system. Even then, the same HSC was never presented in the course of the screening exercise. The aspirant admitted that he has never collected it.”

Also, the Appeal committee led by Dr Abubakar Fari  while citing existing discrepancies in the dates on Obaseki’s University of Ibadan certificate affirmed the Governor’s disqualification.
