IYC To Okowa: You Don’t Have To Wait Till There Is Renewed Crisis To Resolve Ogbe-Ijoh/Aladja Land Dispute

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Ogbe-Ijoh Clan has called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State to capitalize on the relative peace between Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities to resolve the age longed boundary dispute.
Making the call, IYC contended that it is one of the constitutional responsibilities of the Governor to establish peace between warring communities in Delta State.
Ogbe-ijoh Community in Warri South West and Aladja Community in Udu Local Government have been at each other throat over a parcel of land for years.
“IYC Ogbe-ijoh Warri Kingdom is appealing to Governor Okowa to resolve the issue now that there is relative peace between the two communities.
“We do not want a situation where government would only intervene when there is clash between the two communities with the consequent casualties.
“The youths are always the victims once there is an attack between the two communities”, Comr. Amb. (Engr) Okosu Smart, Chairman, IYC Ogbe-ijoh Warri Kingdom, said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The good people of Ogbe-ijoh Warri kingdom are for peace and we are ready to continue our good time relationship with our Urhobo neighbours (Aladja), hence the Governor should act swiftly to create the everlasting peace in our regions, he added.
BIGPEN Online recalls that the conflict between the two communities had claimed many lives and caused damages to valuable properties worth millions of naira over the years.
IYC said that they don’t want a repeat of such ugly incidents in the warring communities hence the appeal for government to act now.
