‘Int’l Community Force Buhari To Suspend Ruga Settlement Initiative’ – Sources
President Muhammadu Buhari may have suspended the controversial Ruga Settlement Project, an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture following rising pressure from the international community, sources close to the villa has said.
The initiative was aimed at addressing the usually tragic clashes between the Fulani herdsmen and local farmers.
But public outcry against implementation of the initiative plus calls from the international community following petitions by some notable Nigeria’s must have forced the president to suspend the plan.
Reports say Ruga which was designed to stem the tide of herdsmen/farmers clashes across the country as been described by many commentators as an avenue to Islamize Nigeria.
According to reports, the president, after consultations with stakeholders resolved to put away the idea for a thorough review and well acceptable approach to the menace constituted to national security by the constant clashes between herdsmen and farmers.
A presidency source that hinted at this development, said the announcement would be made any moment from now with detailed explanations, going forward.
