Phone Theft: How Hi-Tech Device Helped Police Track, Arrest Robbers In Delta

The Ebrumede Police Divisional Headquarters in Effurun, near Warri, Delta State was a beehive on Monday morning over news that the station’s “Anti-Phone theft Unit” have track hundreds of stolen phones and arrested several robbers in the process.

BIGPEN ONLINE reports that the stations is said to be using Hi-Tech Phone Tracking Device to get to the snatchers of mobile phones in the vicinity.

Some part of Warri and its environs have become notorious for phone snatchers who robber victims at gunpoint something in vehicles entangled in traffic jam or tricycles.

The robbers who something posed as ‘Keke’ riders with their accomplice who sits on the back seat most cases distract the victim inside the ‘Keke NAPAP’ with their tarpaulin while they pick pocket the victims and robbed them of phones and cash.

Few weeks ago, policemen from the station arrested one Shola Ajose, a Staff of O’tres fast food purportedly owned by Deaconess Roli Sheila, wife of the former governor of the state, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan.

BIGPEN ONLINE learned that the said Ajose was allegedly being held for armed robbery by officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Ebrumede Divisional Headquarters in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The 40 years old suspect is a Supervisor in the fast food.

He was said to have reportedly attacked one Fred Dolor in a commercial tricycle, robbed him of N96,000 naira and his Infinite Hot 6 mobile phone valued at N48,000 naira barely a week ago.

Following a complaints by the victim, the Ebrumede Divisional Officer, CSP Eyoh and his men swung into action, and tracked the phone with modern scientific technologies. They later arrested the suspect

On Monday, a large number of persons believed to be victims thronged the police station from Udu, Jeddo, Ubeji, Warri, Aladja, Ubogo, and other Communities over theft of their phones and were at the police station to recover them.

From the large crowd which attracted newsmen to the scene, it was gathered that the Police have successfully recovered two hundred and twenty three (243) mobile phones and handed them over to their owners including that of one Mr. Samson James, a medical doctor with the Nigerian Navy.

Mr. Samson James’s wife was allegedly robbed at gun point by suspected armed robbers who carted away her “Infinite Smart Phone”, unspecified amount of money and other valuables three days ago in Warri.

However, luck ran out of one of the suspects, Ogheneovo Omonefe who was tracked by high powered technology by Officers and men of the Ebrumede Police Division in alliance with ” Abuja Factor” and it led to his arrests.

The suspect Ogheneovo Omonefe on his part, denied that he robbed the phone from the victim.

The twenty seven (27) year old suspect insisted that he bought the phone for twelve thousand naira (N12,000) from a friend simply identified as Abraham at Hausa Quarters in Warri.

It was learnt that the Ebrumede Police Divisional Officer, CSP Eyoh also led men of the “Anti-Phone theft Unit” newly set up at the Station to recovered the mobile phone of the Judge of the Delta State High Court 3 in Warri, Hon. Justice Onojohwo.

Justice Onojohwo was attacked, robbed and beaten to stupor by suspected armed robbers at his residence recently.

It was learnt that the phone was recovered within thirty (30) working days by the Police with a high powered technology.

Although the supercop of the Ebrumede Divisional Police Officer, CSP Eyoh refused to comment on the successes recorded by the station, a source who craved anonymity said that the DPO had visited the High Court Judge wherein he promised to recover his mobile phone for him within aforementioned days.

Our source disclosed that promptly, the DPO with Officers and men of the “Anti-Phone theft Unit” had swung into action and recovered the phone with the arrests of some suspects who were charged to Court in the process.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyinka Adeleke in a telephone chat said,” It seems so but I have not been able to get details.”
