Three members of African Action Congress (AAC), the political party founded by Omoyele Sowore,  a presidential candidate and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, have been confirmed dead as their vehicle plunged into the Agbarho River along Agbarho Ughelli stretch of the East-West Expressway.

It was learnt that the vehicle which carried the deceased who were on their way from a political event swerved off the slippery road, as it was reportedly raining heavily and plunged into the river, killing the trio.

Reports say, two of the passengers managed to swing to safety after the accident, but the other three passengers were still being sought for in the river by local divers.

One of the deceased was identified as Omamode Ojegba, who was said to be in his early 40s and was the Director General of the Delta State AAC Governorship Candidate, Frank Esanubi’s, campaign organisation.

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Warri,  a friend to one of the victims, who crave anonymity, said the occupants were returning from a political meeting in Kwale when the accident occurred.

BigPen Online recalls that Agbarho River along Agbarho Ughelli ExpressWay have been notorious for claiming lives in recent time, as report says similar incident occurred about a month ago at the same spot, which claimed the three men.

Meanwhile, Sowore who is AAC presidential candidate has expressed sadness over the death of the three members from the Delta State chapter of the party.

According to him, the deceased were returning from an outreach effort related to the local activities of the party when their car fell into a river on a particularly bad stretch of road that has claimed many lives in the past.

“At this dark time, we mourn the loss of these brave men, and ask all of our members to pray that their patriotic and revolutionary souls rest in peace”.

He mentioned the deceased to include Pastor Jones Abushe, Mr. Edris Sani, and Mr. Ernest Omamode Ojegba – all of them people who were tired of the status quo in their state and seeking to bring about positive transformation, Sowore added.

“We also use this opportunity to remember and pray for their families that they might find the strength to bear this tragic loss.

“We continue to rise and seek for better infrastructure, better care for our citizens, and more value to human lives even as we grieve. May the souls of the dearly departed rest in peace”.

Meanwhile, confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta state police command, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, said the incident occurred, but that it was not safe to declare the status of the missing persons yet, as neither they nor their corpses had been found.

“There six traveling in the vehicle, one alighted along the way, the other five were still in the vehicle when it plunged into the river. Two of the five swam out and divers have been helping with the rescue since Wednesday.

“We are not in a position to day whether they are dead or alive, all I can say is that we are still in the rescue process. At least, as at the last time I spoke with the DPO today, the rescue effort was still on”, Aniamaka said.
