The lawmaker in a statement obtained by BigPen Online alleged that the killing was done by persons believed to be armed military personnel.

“Our military is not permitted under our laws to kill defenceless citizens. It is much more troubling that in this case a woman and a child were reportedly killed.

“The Most Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege hereby appeals for calm in the face of what is an obvious provocation.

“We should not allow the terribly wrong action to lead to a conflagration. Our people should act with utmost restraint and allow a proper investigation of what actually happened.

“Those who erred or are culpable will surely face the wrath of the law.

“We pray for peace for all our people in the affected area. There is nothing to celebrate when the blood of innocent citizens is spilled.

“We want peace and will take concrete steps to heal the open wounds of disputations between our people in Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh. May God help us”, the statement added.
