An orgy of violence broke out between Ogbe-Ijoh/Aladja communities in Delta state on Tuesday, leaving one person reportedly dead and three others injured.

Report says the crisis erupted from Ogbe-Ijoh community, Warri South West Local Government Area around 9:30am when youths engaged neighbouring Aladja in a gun battle.

By the time the dust the skirmishes raised settled, one person was said to have been killed and three others injured in the ensuing gun battle among the youths.

BigPen Online learnt that the latest attacks by the armed youths is not unconnected with the land dispute between the two communities.

Alarmed by the development, parents were said to have hurriedly withdrawn their children from school as a result of the attacks while some women group blocked the entrance to Aladja community due to sporadic gun shots from the area.

Former President of Aladja community council, Hon. Tabuko Kabedje who was spotted rushing one of the injured victims to the hospital, told newsmen that Ogbe-Ijoh people were the aggressors, “Ogbe-Ijoh and Isaba are attacking us”, he said.

However, another source who pleaded anonymity said that Aladja people started the renewed crisis which started on Sunday, last week.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives hopeful for Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency, Comrade Akpokona Omafuaire has called on the Delta State government to be decisive to end the bloody crisis.

Omafuaire made the call on Tuesday following the renewed hostility which led to several injured persons on both sides.

“The government has made efforts at resolving this crisis. The government must become decisive now to end this unnecessary blood letting.

“The report of the committee must be signed to law. The government must stand tall now and take action because enough is enough.”

Omafuaire appealed to the warring communities to embrace peace as the killings has not done anyone good but pains and unwarranted deaths.
