Coup In Zimbabwe Draws Reaction From President Buhari
The ongoing crises in Zimbabwe in which President Mugabe and his wife have been detained has drawn reactions from world leaders and this includes President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a press statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari cautioned the Zimbabwean military and advised them to tread carefully so as to avoid unnecessary conflicts.
“Every attempt must be made to resolve all contentious issues by the constitutional means in Zimbabwe to save the country from avoidable political instability”.
According to reports, President Mugabe and his family are safe but detained, although this action has generated tension in the country as several armoured vehicles were seen patrolling the main roads outside the capital Harare and cases of harassment has been recorded.
It will be recalled that the Zimbabwean military took over their capital and detained the 93 year old president, his family and other top officials in what sources say may be connected to the succession’s issue plaguing the ruling ZANU-PF.
The army boss, Major Gem SB no-go has also confirmed that Mugabe and his family are safe although detained and that their aim is to “after criminals around him”.
Meanwhile, his erstwhile Vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa Who was exiled has returned and is touted to take over the day to day running of the country.
