The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide has condemned in the highest terms, the death of a Briton, Mr. Ian Squire in the hands of kidnappers in parts of Delta State.

The group, however, while describing the death of the abducted victim as “unfortunate and highly condemnable”, call on police authority to investigate and fish out the perpetrators.

“This incident does not reflect the character of Niger Deltans, President of IYC, Mr Eric Omare (eqs.) said in a statement on Tuesday, adding, “It is a case of criminality and should be treated as such” .

According to him, the people of Niger Delta are peaceful and hospitable as evidence by the centuries of missionaries from foreign countries having peaceful sojourn in the region.

“We call on the security agents to bring the perpetrators to justice, he said, adding, “The perpetrators must not be allowed to go unpunished”.

Omare reiterated,”We again call on community and traditional leaders to support security agents to help in fishing out criminals from their communities.
