Abducted British Missionary Killed In Delta, 3 Others Rescued

One of the British Missionaries kidnapped in coastal community of Burutu, Delta state has been reported killed.

However, three of the victims also abducted alongside the deceased has been freed.

Vioce of America reported.on Monday that the British government had announced the death of one of the Christian missionary who had been abducted in Nigeria last month.

The report also said three other missionaries had been freed.

The British Foreign Office said Ian Squire, who had been working with a Christian medical charity in southern Nigeria, was killed, but did not specify how he died.

The three other missionaries, Alanna Carson, David Donovan and Shirley Donovan have returned to their families.

The four missionaries were abducted on October 13 in the Niger Delta region. It is still unclear how they were freed, as the Foreign Office said it could not comment on an active investigation.

BiPen Online reports that militants in the  Niger Delta have been known to carry out kidnappings for ransom, though it is unknown whether they were involved in this case.

Stae Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim Zanna couldn’t be reach for comment but earlier statement by the police says some suspects had been arrested earlier over the kidnap.
