Amaechi Gets More Edge In Rivers As Appeal Court Sacks PDP Senator, Declares APC’s Uchendu As Winner Of Rivers-East Election

The power play between former River State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and incumbent Governor, Nyesom Wike has taken a new dimension in favor of the former as the court of Appeal on Thursday sacked a PDP Senator and declared an APC member as winner of Rivers-East Election.
With this development, Amaechi now has two Senators from the state on his side in the battle to reclaim the governorship of the state from governor Wike come 2019.
BigPen Online recalls that senator, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator George Sekibo had gone to the Court of Appeal to challenge the ruling of the Rivers State Elections Petitions Tribunal, which earlier removed him from office.
But ruling on the Court of Appeal case on Thursday, the court confirmed the sack of the representative of Rivers East Senatorial District, Senator Sekibo who was earlier sacked at the Tribunal.
The appellate court held that the appeal filed by Sekibo lacked merit as it did not show facts as to why the decision of the lower court should be set aside.
The three-man panel of the Court pf Appeal held that the ousted lawmaker only reproduced his closing remarks at the end of the hearing at the tribunal, but did not challenge the decision reached by the tribunal.
The panel also held that according to the law, where an issue is not challenged, the court has no business considering it.
