Why Police Seal Off Delta APC Secretariat

Published

on

The crisis rocking the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Delta state may not be heading toward an end soon as police have again sealed the party Secretariat in Asaba, the state capital.

This is coming two years after the party Secretariat was sealed by police owing to the festering leadership crisis rocking the state main opposition party.

Heavily armed mobile policemen had at the early hours of Friday taken over the secretariat as the two factions claiming leadership of the party almost clashed at the secretariat.

BigPen Online learnt that the state police command, to prevent an imminent breakdown of law and order, took over the secretariat when a faction of the party led by Prophet Jones Erue tried to access the secretariat to inaugurate their local Government executives.

The Chief Cyril Ogodo-led faction loyal to Olorogun Otega Emerhor had reportedly informed the police of possible break down of law and order if they don’t move in to stop the scheduled inauguration at the party Secretariat.

Following this, the state commissioner of police who had earlier had Ogodo faction introduced to him in a letter by the then party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun was said to have mobilized his men to seal off the secretariat to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

The police, it was learnt later called the two faction leaders of the party aided by Olorogun Otega Emerhor and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Chief Great Ogboru respectively, who have been in a supremacy battle over who control the Party in the State for a dialogue.

It was not clear if the leaders of the two factions showed up for the meeting but the party Secretariat remained sealed by the police.

BigPen Online recalls that Ogodo factional executive was sworn in by the immediate past National Chairman of the Party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun along 32 other state chairmen of the Party on June 4th, while Prophet Jones Erue was sworn in by the new National Chairman of the Party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on July 16th amidst protest.
