An Abuja High Court has awarded N125,000 in costs against Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, following a request by his counsel for an adjournment in an ongoing assault and battery suit.

Justice J.O.E. Adeyemi-Ajayi awarded the cost on Wednesday after the defence counsel, Mr Ikenna Magnus, asked the court for more time to prepare for cross-examination and defence.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter until October 27 and 29 for further proceedings.

The suit was instituted by Ogbogiri Okey Levi, popularly known as Kraziecent, who accused the rapper of assaulting him at a public event in December 2024.

At the resumed hearing, counsel to the claimant, Mr Uchenna Ojembe, informed the court that his witness was present and ready to proceed with the scheduled cross-examination and defence.

However, Magnus appealed to the court for another date, explaining that he had only recently taken over the matter and needed additional time to prepare his case.

Opposing the application, Ojembe accused the defence of employing delay tactics to frustrate the proceedings. He also sought a cost of N5 million against the defendant.

“This is the usual delay tactics to obstruct and stall proceedings. We will not be applying to keep them out, but we will be applying for N5 million cost,” Ojembe said.

Despite the claimant’s objection, the defence counsel pleaded with the court for leniency.

In her ruling, Justice Adeyemi-Ajayi awarded N125,000 in costs against Odumodublvck over the delay before adjourning the case.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Kraziecent alleged that the rapper assaulted him during the December 2024 incident, damaged his iPhone 15 Pro Max and caused him emotional distress.

The claimant is seeking reimbursement of his medical expenses, a public apology from the defendant on his social media platforms and in two national newspapers, or N2 billion in damages.
