SMEDAN DG Charles Odii Hosts EU Ambassador Mignot, Seeks Partnership for MSMEs

SMEDAN Director-General Charles Odii on Tuesday hosted the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, in Abuja to strengthen Nigeria-EU partnership for MSME growth and youth entrepreneurship.

The meeting, held at SMEDAN headquarters, focused on expanding market access, green and digital economy opportunities, and unlocking EU investment for Nigerian small businesses.

The visit underscored the growing importance of Nigeria-EU collaboration in driving enterprise development and creating opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and young entrepreneurs.

Following formal discussions, the Ambassador and his team toured SMEDAN’s Common Facility Centre and workshop. The facilities showcase practical interventions designed to support enterprise development, innovation, skills acquisition and productivity.

The engagement also brought together critical stakeholders at the local government level and included direct interactions with young Nigerian entrepreneurs and small business owners. Discussions centred on expanding partnerships, improving market access, unlocking investment opportunities and increasing patronage from EU Member States for Nigerian businesses contributing to national economic development.

A key focus of the conversation was the enormous potential of the green and digital economies. Officials noted that Nigeria’s young entrepreneurs are well positioned to take advantage of these emerging opportunities, with stronger international partnerships helping to provide the technology, skills, financing and market access required to scale their businesses.

“As Nigeria continues to build a more competitive and inclusive economy, SMEDAN remains committed to fostering partnerships that translate into tangible opportunities for our MSMEs and young entrepreneurs,” the agency stated.

SMEDAN expressed deep appreciation for the European Union’s continued engagement and affirmed its commitment to building a stronger and more impactful partnership in the interest of Nigeria’s enterprise ecosystem and shared economic prosperity.
