Mercy Eke demands unconditional release of abducted teachers, students

Two weeks after the tragic abduction of public school teachers and students in Oyo State, public outrage continues to swell across Nigeria.

High-profile celebrities and citizens alike are demanding swift action, with some calling for a total shutdown of the public education sector to force the government’s hand.

The kidnapping, which has been described as a deeply painful and traumatizing event for the nation, has sparked widespread solidarity.

Among the prominent voices leading the call for unconditional release of the victims is controversial social media commentator, VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In a passionate post on his social media page, VDM urged Nigerians not to let the incident fade from public consciousness.

“We are not going to move on until they are released,” VDM stated emphatically.

Taking his advocacy a step further, the social media influencer called for a nationwide show of solidarity, urging public school teachers and parents across the state to initiate a boycott starting Monday, June 1, 2026.

He advised teachers to stay away from classrooms and cautioned parents against sending their children to school.

According to VDM, a mass strike might be the only effective strategy left to send an undeniable message to authorities and expedite the rescue mission.

Other major public figures, including reality TV star Mercy Eke, have also lent their platforms to the cause, speaking out passionately against the prolonged captivity of the victims.

The movement is rapidly gaining traction beyond social media.

Citizens within Oyo State and across neighboring States have refused to remain silent, staging public outcries and demanding that the safety of educators and schoolchildren be treated as a national priority.

In response to the mounting pressure, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reportedly engaged in high-level security talks.

The government has assured the public that strategic measures are being deployed to ensure the safe and unconditional release of all the captives.
