Eighteen suspected drug peddlers have been remanded in prison custody in Delta State following their arrest at various spots by the Buffalo Unit of the Delta State Police Command.

The suspects were arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction on December 5, 2025, after they were arrested in a targeted raid in Asaba, the state capital.

Confirming this in a statement on Saturday, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said that the Commander Buffalo Unit successfully carried out the arrests in a renewed push to tackle the menace of drug abuse in the state.

The suspects were remanded in prison custody pending fulfilment of their bail conditions.

In the same vein, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, also executed a successful intelligence-led operation in Abraka on 6th December 2025 as part of continued effort to curb cult-related activities and the proliferation of illicit firearms within the State.

He said that acting on credible intelligence, the operatives conducted a coordinated search at No. 2 Umeghe Community, Abraka, the residence of Isiakpere Friday, 67 years old.

TThe operation resulted in the recovery of two (2) pump-action guns and thirty-nine (39) live cartridges.

According to Edafe, the suspect has been taken into custody as investigators expand their search for possible links to cult groups, arms suppliers, and other criminal networks operating in the area.

The command, led by Delta State Command Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, made the breakthrough in its ongoing operations against cultism and violent crime, according to the statement.

“The recent intelligence-led arms recovery in Abraka and the arraignment of eighteen (18) suspects in court collectively demonstrate the Command’s strengthened enforcement efforts across the State’.

In his remarks, the Delta State Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their effective actions, noting that the arrests and recoveries reflect the Command’s ongoing commitment to intelligence-led policing.

He stated that the Command will not tolerate cultism, arms trafficking, or any conduct that endangers public safety, and that all criminal elements will be prosecuted. He urged residents to continue supporting the Police with credible information to enhance security across the State.
