The Delta State Police Command has intensified its efforts to combat crime, achieving notable successes in recent operations across the state.

In a press briefing, Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe outlined key cases that underscore the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

One of the standout achievements was the arrest of two serial car snatchers, Junior Emmanuel (33) and Julius Samuel (28), who confessed to the murder of a cab driver in Osubi on December 15, 2024.

The suspects had lured the driver into a trap, strangled him, and dumped his body, leaving a female victim stranded in the bush. Their arrest on January 2, 2025, led to the recovery of two stolen vehicles.

Similarly, the police apprehended a robbery syndicate posing as tricycle operators, targeting passengers at night. The suspects, caught on January 3, 2025, were found with two locally made guns, live cartridges, and stolen phones.

In another twist, a self-kidnap scheme involving a woman identified as Faith Oghenejabor (alias Smart Amanda) was exposed. She faked her abduction to extort nearly ₦2 million from a Facebook acquaintance. Investigations revealed her dual identity, and she is now in custody.

The fight against cultism also yielded results. On December 23, 2024, the police arrested Prosper Akeni, a leader of the Eiye confraternity, during a gathering in Orhuwhorun. An arsenal of firearms, including pistols and locally made guns, was recovered, with Akeni admitting they belonged to his group. Further raids in Oghara and Sapele led to additional arrests and the recovery of more weapons.

The command also dealt with deeply troubling cases, including the arrest of a 26-year-old barber, Volte Bale, accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy for two years. Additionally, a 25-year-old woman, Blessing Kojo Oghenefejiri, was arrested for child trafficking after she deceived families and gave away a six-week-old baby under false pretenses

SP Edafe commended residents for providing crucial information that facilitated the arrests. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to justice and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

As investigations continue, the Delta State Police Command has assured citizens of its dedication to maintaining peace and curbing criminal activities.
