The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has urged all journalists and media professionals to leverage their platforms to raise awareness about the environmental crisis and its implications.

The group made the call in a statement to mark the World Press Day on May 3, 2024, with the theme; “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the face of the Environmental Crisis.”

In a statement signed by its chairman, Emmanuel Enebeli, and Secretary General, Shedrack Onitsha, the forum reaffirms its commitment to upholding professionalism and ethical standards in online publishing in Nigeria.

“With a steadfast dedication to ethics, professionalism, and service, DOPF remains at the forefront of promoting responsible journalism in the digital age”, the statement said.

The statement highlighted the critical role journalists play in addressing environmental challenges.

“Through accurate and insightful reporting, we have the power to educate the public about the consequences of environmental degradation resulting from economic and industrial processes”, DOPF said.

The statement, however called on journalists to expose environmental injustices, maintaining that with sustainable solutions, and amplify voices of environmental advocates, “we can make a meaningful impact on preserving the environment”.
