Edo Deputy Governor Shaibu Denied Entry To Government House Amid Ongoing Feud

Published

on

The ongoing conflict between Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, escalated on Monday when Shaibu was blocked from entering his government office.

Despite arriving at the Government House in the morning, Shaibu found his office locked and was unable to gain entry.

Shaibu and his team waited for around an hour before leaving, and during this time, he attempted unsuccessfully to contact the governor.

He expressed confusion over the situation, stating he had not received any official communication instructing him to move offices.

He also noted that his civil servants received official communication, but he did not.

The deputy governor’s aide, who requested anonymity, revealed the situation to the public and confirmed that Shaibu had spoken to the Police Commissioner and the Director of State Services about being locked out of his office.

He further stated that there had been no official notification that the deputy governor’s office would be locked.

Although Governor Obaseki has not commented on the incident, sources close to him suggest that Shaibu has moved his office to a new location and was not expected at the old office.

They also clarified that no meeting was scheduled for Monday, so there was no reason for Shaibu to be at the Government House.

However, they indicated that if a meeting had been set, arrangements would have been made for the Deputy Governor’s attendance.

Previously, a letter allegedly from the Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, was said to have been sent to the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, instructing Shuaibu to move to a new office at No 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue, GRA, Benin City.
