EU Has Accepted To Hear My Complaint Tuesday On ‘Rigged’ Poll, Says Delta YPP Guber Candidate Ofehe

Comrade Sunny Ofehe, YPP Delta Governorship candidate

Comrade (Chief Dr) Sunny Ofehe, an environmental-political rights activist, announced on Monday that the European Union would hear his complaint about the allegedly rigged election on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

Ofehe was a front-runner governorship candidate in Delta State in the just concluded governorship and state assembly elections under the Young Progressive Party (YPP) platform.

In a brief statement, Ofehe said that the EU had agreed to accept his complaint regarding the election, which he claimed had been rigged by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress in collusion with some INEC officials.

Dr. Ofehe claimed during a press conference in Abuja that the election in Delta, in which he took part, was tainted with financial inducement, ballot paper snatching, and other forms of manipulation, lamenting that the process was a disgrace to the most populous black nations in the world.

He stated that the international community was more interested in Nigeria’s election than any other country due to the size of the population and the need for Nigeria to set a good example for democracy, but that the financial investments made by the European Union, EU, United Nations, and other foreign countries into the exercise have been a waste given the fraud he claimed to have witnessed. Ofehe called the process a “selection” rather than an “election.”

Ofehe said, “As you all know, the “selection” and not the election for the Delta State Governorship race has come and gone. I have now received EU approval to bring my complaint before the international community. The PDP has been declared the highest bidder in the fraudulent vote-buying and voter-intimidation exercise! The “mighty” APC couldn’t compete with the PDP in the process of buying votes because the PDP had access to the state treasury, whereas the APC required national patronage, which was insurmountable, he added.

“Everyone here who took part or witnessed the exercise saw what happened in all the units across the State. Money was paid to get votes, unit results were changed, and where people stood not to be intimidated. They were forced to flee or the unit destroyed.

“In order to ensure that our voices are heard beyond the shores of Nigeria, I had a national press conference in Abuja. I promised to channel our complaints back to the European Union in Brussels.

“I am happy to inform you that the EU has agreed to accept my complaint officially in Brussels, Belgium, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 28th, 2023. As promised, I will plead the case for the EU to see the Nigerian election as just a mere monitoring and statement issuing situation”, the statement reads.

On why he would not approach election tribunal as enshrined in the Constitution and Electoral Act as amended, Ofehe who is based in Europe before coming to participate in election expressed disbelief in Nigerian Courts, insisting that he will act differently using international instruments to ensure that the next election in 2027 would not be a ruse.
