Police Arrests Ghana Returnee With Loaded Gun Hidden Near Private Part In Delta

Police operatives in Delta state have arrested a 22-year-old Ghana returnee who concealed a loaded gun near his private part in a commercial bus.

www.bigpenngr.com reports that the suspect was arrested along Warri/Sapele road on Friday, 19 August, 2022.

State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Bright Edafe who confirmed this in a statement on Sunday in Warri, said that the suspect was arrested after the police intercepted a Volkswagen Jetta commercial vehicle with reg. no. PTN 242 TA, conveying some passengers from Sapele to Warri.

According to Edafe, the police team had subjected the passengers to a search, during which one locally made cut-to-size gun loaded with two live Cartridges were recovered from him.

He said that the suspect, one Aaron Uko, aged 22 of Sapele, concealed the gun in his body close to his private part.

Edafe said that preliminary investigation revealed that he bought the gun in the year 2018 from a man nicknamed “OSE” for twenty-seven thousand naira (N27,000) and buried it in his house before leaving for Ghana.

He said that the suspect was arrested and taken into custody with the recovered exhibit as investigation is ongoing.

In a related development, two suspected kidnappers have been arrested in Effurun for alleged kidnap of a 17-year-old boy.

Police spokesman, disclosed that the suspects were caught by mobs who attempted to lynched them before they were rescued by patrol team along Effurun roundabout.

Edafe said on Wednesday, 17 August at about 1345hours, Policemen attached to Eagle-Net patrol team while on visibility and confidence building patrol along Effurun roundabout, Warri, saw a large crowd beating two boys.

“The Police rushed to the scene and rescued the boys from the  mob. On the spot inquiry, it was discovered that they were suspected kidnappers.

“A woman also accused the boys of kidnapping her 17 year old son earlier that day.

“The two suspects, Oti Shevire ‘m’ aged 32years and Amos (surname unknown), upon interrogation, confessed to the crime and led the Policemen to their hideout, where the victim was rescued, and is currently receiving treatment.

Suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing, he added.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ali, has cautioned residents against carrying out jungle justice when suspected are held, saying “no one has the right to take laws into his or her hands, as anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law”.

The CP, however assured Deltans that the Command is determined to reduce crime to the barest level in the State, urging residents to trust the process and believe in the Command as criminal arrested will not go unpunished.
