2019 General Elections: ‘To Hold Or Not To Hold’: INEC Keeps Nigerians On Suspense

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has kept Nigerians wondering if the general elections scheduled to kickoff Saturday would hold or not.
Though, the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, INEC is set to brief newsmen on the outcome of the crucial meeting between the commission and stakeholders over the Saturday’s elections.
BIGPEN NIGERIA reports that there has been widespread uncertainty over the possibility of postponement of the elections owing to logistics issues.
The nation’s Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold in few hours.
But reports say INEC was having logistics challenges that could affect the exercise.
According to the reports, in some states, electoral materials had not been distributed as of 9:pm Friday night, making some members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to allege that there is a deliberate plot to sabotage the exercise.
The electoral body is facing difficulty distributing sensitive electoral materials to some states of the federation, an official had said.
The development, BIGPEN NIGERIA gathered had forced INEC to call the crucial meeting of stakeholders.
According to National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity at INEC, Mr. Festus Okoye, a decision has been taken on the election arising from the late night meeting.
He spoke between Friday night and early hours of Saturday while dismissing rumour of possible postponement of the elections, urging Nigerians to ignore the rumours.
His words: “If stories are flying about, allow the stories to fly. What they are reporting is not true.”
