The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers and kidnappers and recovered two firearms and live cartridges in separate operations in Ughelli North and Ika South Local Government Areas.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Edafe said operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), acting on credible intelligence, raided Ujode community, Ughelli North, on October 16 and arrested one Thankgod Ejakpomewhe, 29, suspected to be a member of an armed robbery syndicate terrorising the area.
According to him, one locally-made long gun and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspect while other gang members fled.
In another operation, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Ubuluku, raided a suspected criminal hideout in Alisimen community, Ika South, on October 15 and arrested four suspects.
The suspects are Okwunzuwa Rubben, 28, John Onyeka, 42, Uzoma Ifeyinwa, 20, and Osas Atoe, 22.
Items recovered from them include a double-barrelled pump-action gun, five live cartridges, one laptop, six mobile phones, a camouflage cap and jacket.
Edafe said investigation is ongoing and efforts are on to arrest fleeing members of the Ujode syndicate.
