Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over a suspicious payment made into one of his private bank accounts, alleging that his confidential banking details may have been compromised.

Atiku disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.

According to the statement, an individual unknown to the former vice president transferred money into the account with the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”

Atiku said neither he nor his campaign organisation solicited, authorised or had any knowledge of the person or entity behind the payment.

The former vice president described the circumstances surrounding the transaction as “deeply troubling,” noting that the affected account was strictly private and its details were not publicly available.

He questioned how unidentified individuals could have obtained the confidential banking information of a private citizen.

“If the private banking information of a former Vice President and a leading presidential candidate can be accessed and deployed for reasons yet unknown, then no Nigerian’s financial privacy is safe,” Atiku said.

He further expressed concern that the information could have been obtained through individuals with privileged access to confidential banking records.

According to him, any confirmed breach of such information could expose account holders to serious security risks, including threats from kidnappers, terrorists, bandits and fraudsters.

Atiku said the incident had been brought to the attention of Nigerians and relevant security agencies, describing it as the latest in what he called a series of suspicious activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also urged Nigerians not to be distracted by what he described as attempts to damage his reputation as political activities intensify.

The ADC presidential candidate maintained that he remained focused on providing what he described as credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
