‎Teen Killed, Several Injured as Fountain Collapses During Spain’s World Cup Victory Celebrations

A 13-year-old boy has died and several other people were injured after a fountain collapsed during celebrations of Spain’s FIFA World Cup triumph in the western Spanish city of Ciudad Rodrigo.

‎The tragic incident occurred shortly after Spain secured its first World Cup title since 2010, as jubilant fans gathered in public spaces to celebrate the historic victory.

‎In a statement posted on Facebook, the Ciudad Rodrigo City Council expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

‎”The City Hall of Ciudad Rodrigo expresses its sadness and extends its heartfelt condolences on the death of a 13-year-old boy,” the statement read.

‎The council described the incident as a heartbreaking turn of events, saying what was meant to be a joyful celebration ended in tragedy.

Vanguard report that emergency services said they received multiple distress calls shortly after 12:30 a.m. local time reporting that a fountain had collapsed onto a crowd. Rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene, where they confirmed the death of the teenager and treated several injured victims, including another youth.

‎According to local media reports, the structure gave way under the weight of numerous fans who had climbed onto the fountain while celebrating Spain’s World Cup victory.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse as the community mourns the young victim and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.
