‎Tinubu Grants Custom Boss Adeniyi Final Six-month Tenure

President Bola Tinubu has approved a final six-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, allowing him to remain in office until February 2027.

‎The Presidency announced the extension on Friday, stating that the move is aimed at enabling Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms within the Customs Service, particularly the implementation of the National Single Window project, while ensuring a smooth leadership transition.

‎Adeniyi’s current tenure extension was originally scheduled to expire on August 1, 2026. However, the latest approval grants him an additional six months to complete key initiatives and oversee critical administrative processes within the service.

‎According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Comptroller-General will work closely with the Nigeria Customs Service Board during the transition period to facilitate the promotion of qualified officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs.

‎The statement added that Adeniyi will also supervise the compulsory retirement of officers who have reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years or completed 35 years of service, in line with public service regulations.

‎Adeniyi, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, joined the Nigeria Customs Service in the late 1980s and steadily rose through the ranks. He became Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023.

‎President Tinubu appointed him Comptroller-General of Customs in June 2023, entrusting him with the responsibility of driving reforms, enhancing revenue generation, and strengthening trade facilitation across the country.
