Police Recover Hijacked Tanker in Oyo as Suspects Flee Amid Security Dragnet

The Oyo State Police Command has recovered a tanker truck hijacked by armed criminals after the suspects allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled to evade arrest.

‎In a public statement released via official X handle, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the recovered DAF tanker truck was found in the Ile-Igbon area of Oyo State following actionable intelligence received by police operatives, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.

‎Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had been left unattended for several days. Police believe the suspects abandoned the truck after discovering that security operatives were actively tracking their movements through intelligence-led operations.

‎According to him, the vehicle was immediately secured and taken into custody pending the completion of investigative procedures.

‎Further inquiries established that the tanker had earlier been hijacked along the Ijebu-Ode axis of Ogun State. The driver later identified the recovered vehicle and confirmed that it had been forcefully taken from him by armed criminals during the incident.

‎The owner of the tanker also confirmed the hijacking and disclosed that the case had previously been reported to law enforcement authorities in Ogun State.
‎The Oyo State Police Command said it is collaborating closely with its counterpart in Ogun State to complete the necessary administrative processes required for the release of the vehicle to its rightful owner.

‎Meanwhile, efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects linked to the crime.
‎Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating criminal activities across the state through intelligence-driven policing, strategic deployment of personnel and assets, and enhanced inter-agency cooperation.

‎He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing and solving crimes.
