Police Bust Fraud Syndicate, Recover 1,600 Counterfeit Dollar Bills in Delta

The police in Delta state has arrested five-man syndicate reportedly involved in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public using counterfeit United States dollar bills.

The suspects were nabbed by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, on June 9, 2026.

It was gathered that the suspect were intercepted while operating in a red unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV.

Confirming the arrest, State Police Public Relations Officer, Supreindent of Police Bright Edafe, in a statement yesterday, said the arrest followed the Command’s sustained efforts to combat fraud, illicit drug trafficking, and other forms of criminality across the State.

He said that the operation following separate intelligence-led operations that resulted in the arrest of suspected fraudsters and drug dealers, as well as the recovery of counterfeit foreign currency and prohibited substances.

Giving details of the arrest, Edafe said, “The intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma, and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road, Asaba.

“During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to operating from a hideout in Asaba.

“A follow-up operation was immediately conducted at the location, where operatives recovered One Thousand Six Hundred (1,600) counterfeit United States dollar notes and military camouflage concealed within the premises.

“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the full scope of the syndicate’s activities”, he added.

The statement said in a separate operation on June, 9, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on actionable intelligence, apprehended two female suspects in Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspects, identified as Ifeoma Egbule (36 years) and Anayeokwu Florence (51 years), were arrested in possession of substantial quantities of suspected illicit substances, including GH Gold, Colorado, Cannabis, and Canadian Loud.

The exhibits were recovered and taken into custody alongside the suspects.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects were actively involved in the distribution of the prohibited substances within the area. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the drug distribution network.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and commitment to duty. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Delta State.
