Police Foil Driver’s Plot to Kidnap Chinese Businessman for N50M in Ogun ‎

‎The Ogun State Police Command has thwarted a planned kidnapping of a Chinese expatriate and arrested two suspected conspirators who allegedly intended to demand a ransom of N50 million.

‎The suspects, identified as 41-year-old Chinedu Onwuemena and 37-year-old Jimoh Ojo, were arrested by operatives of the Obalende Police Division following intelligence reports of an impending abduction along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway.

‎According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation was carried out around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday after the Divisional Police Officer received credible information about the planned crime.

‎Acting swiftly, police operatives and surveillance officers moved to the location and intercepted the suspects before they could execute the kidnapping.

‎“The timely intervention of our operatives successfully thwarted what could have resulted in a serious kidnapping incident,” Babaseyi said.

‎Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly planned to abd¥ct a Chinese national and demand N50 million for his release.

‎Police further disclosed that Onwuemena, who worked as the victim’s interpreter and driver, allegedly used his position and access within the company to facilitate the plot.

‎Investigators believe the suspects were working with another accomplice who remains on the run. Efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect and uncover the full network behind the conspiracy.

‎The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

‎Commending the officers involved, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the Obalende Division for acting promptly on intelligence that prevented the crime.
