on

‎The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a gun-running syndicate allegedly linked to the recovery of an illegal Beretta pistol at a motor park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, on May 1, 2026.

‎Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed this during a press briefing in Asaba on Monday, stating that the arrests followed weeks of intelligence-led investigations and coordinated operations carried out across Bayelsa and Imo states.

‎According to him, the first suspect, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, was apprehended in Bayelsa State on May 4, 2026, alongside a friend and roommate whose mobile phone was allegedly used in communications related to the firearm transaction.

‎Investigators said Chukwuemeka confessed to purchasing the Beretta pistol from another suspect, Amadi Princewill, for ₦290,000 before reselling it to a man identified as Desmond, who remains at large, for ₦380,000.

‎Police further revealed that Desmond allegedly arranged for the firearm to be transported to Effurun and contacted the late Oghenemine Ogidi to collect it and facilitate its delivery to Sapele.

‎Acting on information obtained during the investigation, operatives tracked and arrested Amadi Princewill in Imo State on May 15. During interrogation, Princewill reportedly admitted purchasing the weapon from Amadi Felix for ₦200,000.

‎The confession led investigators to Amadi Felix Chibuike, who was subsequently arrested in Owerri, Imo State, on May 16. Another suspect, Clifford Boleyelefa, was also arrested as part of the operation.

‎The police said all four suspects are alleged members of the Black Axe confraternity and are believed to be part of a wider gun-running network operating across state lines.

‎CP Oyeniyi noted that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including the fugitive suspect, Desmond.

‎The police commissioner  further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating illegal arms trafficking and other forms of organized crime across Delta State.
