The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered a major breakthrough in an ongoing criminal investigation with the arrest of two suspects in Ijebu-Ode who have been linked to a kidnapping and murder case in neighbouring Edo State.

‎In a public statement issued on Saturday, June 6, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, said the suspects, identified as 25-year-old Gafaru Adamu and 20-year-old Muhammed Sanni, were apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following intelligence-led operations by personnel of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

‎The statement read in parts, this development follows an earlier announcement by the police on June 4, 2026, regarding the arrest of the suspects by operatives of the Nigeria Forest Security Service and the commencement of investigations into their activities.

‎Police investigations revealed that the duo is wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State. Preliminary findings further indicate that the suspects are alleged members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the crime.

‎During the investigation, operatives recovered a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The recovered items have been documented and taken into custody as evidence to support ongoing investigations.

‎The Ogun State Police Command stated that since the alleged crimes were committed outside its jurisdiction, the suspects and all recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with established inter-state policing procedures.

‎Commending the efforts of the operatives involved, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, diligence and intelligence-gathering capabilities, which led to the identification of the suspects and the recovery of crucial exhibits.

‎Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to preventing criminals from using Ogun State as a safe haven or transit route for unlawful activities. He assured residents that the Command would continue to strengthen security through intelligence-driven policing, proactive crime-fighting strategies and collaboration with other state commands.

‎The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support the fight against crime and criminality across the state.
