‎Omo-Agege: Oborevwori Left PDP for APC Because He Feared a 2027 Showdown

Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has claimed that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) because he viewed him as a formidable political threat ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

‎Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday,  Omo-Agege said that Governor Oborevwori’s decision to abandon the PDP was driven by fears of facing him in another electoral contest.

‎According to Omo-Agege, the 2023 general elections demonstrated his political strength and the growing popularity of the APC in Delta State. He noted that the APC won two of the state’s three Senate seats, including Delta Central Senatorial District, where both he and Governor Oborevwori hail from.

‎”The Delta Central contest, the APC secured victory by defeating the PDP candidate, adding that the outcome reflected the electorate’s confidence in his party.”

‎He further claimed that widespread dissatisfaction with the governor’s administration triggered a wave of defections from the PDP to the APC as he toured communities across the state to reorganize the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

‎The former Deputy Senate President also reiterated his longstanding position that he did not genuinely lose the 2023 governorship election, insisting that the election outcome remains disputed in his view.

‎”If Oborevwori were certain that I posed no threat to his political future, he would have remained in the PDP and faced me in the 2027 election,” Omo-Agege stated.
