2027: PDP Fires Back at Keyamo, Defends Jonathan’s Presidential Bid ‎

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), over his comments regarding former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential candidacy in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the minister lacks the moral authority to advise the former leader.

This was contained in a statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP Interim National Working Committee, on Tuesday, 2 of June in Abuja, said PDP would ordinarily have ignored the minister’s remarks but was compelled to respond due to what it described as growing anxiety within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over increasing calls for Jonathan’s return to national leadership.

The statement accused Keyamo of hypocrisy, arguing that he built his public reputation through vigorous criticism of past governments and the defense of democratic principles, yet now appears uncomfortable with political parties and citizens exercising their democratic rights.

‎According to Ini, Keyamo should focus on addressing challenges within the aviation sector and the broader administration rather than commenting on the internal affairs of the PDP.

‎The opposition party further criticized the APC-led government, citing economic hardship, rising insecurity, unemployment, and concerns over transparency and accountability as pressing national issues requiring urgent attention.

‎”A minister who could not effectively implement a simple cashless policy is not the best person to offer advice to a former President,” the statement said.

‎The PDP maintained that Nigerians have not forgotten what it described as the achievements of Jonathan’s administration, including political stability, economic growth, investor confidence, and national inclusiveness.

‎The party argued that these factors have contributed to growing public calls for the former president to return and provide what it termed stability, national healing, and a reduction in political tension across the country.

‎The PDP also warned that no amount of intimidation or political pressure would prevent Nigerians from expressing their political preferences or supporting leaders of their choice.

‎As preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections, the party said citizens are increasingly seeking leadership that is competent, unifying, and committed to national development above partisan interests.

‎The statement further urge Keyamo to direct his advice toward the APC administration and its handling of the country’s economic and security challenges, insisting that his criticisms of Jonathan and the PDP would continue to “ring hollow” unless those issues are addressed.
