Nigeria’s Defence Minister Will Be A Drone if Elected President – Sowore

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has sparked fresh debate online after declaring that if elected Nigeria’s president, his minister of defence would be “a drone.”

‎Sowore made the statement during an interview on ARISE News while discussing Nigeria’s security challenges and the need to deploy technology in combating terrorism and insecurity across the country.

‎According to him, Nigeria must adopt immediate security measures driven by advanced technology, effective military leadership, and a more focused police force.

‎“So let’s take it this way. There are short-term measures that must be taken regarding security,” Sowore said.

‎“To get these guys out of wherever they’re hiding, make sure that we pursue and liquidate them, we have to have equipment, we have to use technology, we have to have honest leaders and supervisors and officers who are not staying in Abuja fighting over lands but are actually fighting wars.”

‎The activist also criticised the current deployment of police personnel, arguing that officers should concentrate on internal security operations instead of escort duties or arresting individuals over social media comments.

‎“And I have said it, and i will repeat it here again, to the utter surprise of everybody, that if I become Nigeria’s president tomorrow, my minister of defense will be a drone. That’s how much I believe in technology,” he stated.

‎Reacting to the comment, the programme host suggested that artificial intelligence could also become an important part of national defence strategy.

‎“That’s part of it, i am just going to have a control center where people sit down and just track terrorists and liquidate them.” sowore added

‎Meanwhile, Sowore remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with supporters praising his emphasis on technology-driven security reforms, while critics questioned the practicality and implications of such an approach.
