The statement reads; “I received the sad news today that we have lost a great unionist and pioneer of the democracy that Nigeria current enjoy today. Chief Frank Kokori is dead! The former General Secretary of The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) died age 80, ironically on his birthday.

“He recently made headlines when he complained of being sick, hospitalized and abandoned in the hospital unable to pay for his medical bills. However, relief came when the Governor of Delta State paid him an emergency visit and cleared all his medical bills with a promise to meet the request of further expense.

“I was privileged to work with him during the 2019 elections and had the opportunity to engage him on his struggle and perspective of our country Nigeria. It is really sad that such a monumental figure had to struggle with our failed healthcare system in the country and even begged for help in his last period on earth.

“He was my icon and a leader to those who truly knew his value. He bows out in honor and will always be remembered for the personal sacrifice he made during the June 12 struggle. I want to use this opportunity to wish the family my deepest condolence and pray that God Almighty will give them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
