Former EFCC Chief, Bawa Freed After Four-Month In DSS Detention
Abdulrasheed Bawa, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been released from a more than four-month-long detention by the Department of State Services (DSS).
His release comes after being suspended and detained in June under the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
Bawa’s suspension, according to Willie Bassey, Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was due to serious allegations of office abuse. The suspension was intended to facilitate a thorough investigation into his actions during his tenure at EFCC.
Among the accusations levelled against Bawa was a $2 million bribe demand made to Bello Matawalle, former Governor of Zamfara State and Minister of State for Defence.
Matawalle had accused Bawa, who quickly debunked the claim and challenged Matawalle to provide public proof.
