In an effort to ensure that all projects in Delta State meet the necessary standards and requirements, Engr. Goodnews Agbi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring and Audit, on Tuesday, made an unexpected tour of the Ughelli/Asaba dual carriage project sites in the Isoko axis.

During his visit to the Oleh road project site, Agbi stressed to the contractor the importance of thorough soil testing and proper sub-grade design, given the predominantly alluvial nature of the soil in Oleh and its environs.

He emphasized that this was crucial to prevent road failure within a year.

He also insisted that the Projects Monitoring Team should examine the site for sub-grade testing after the earthwork and soil grading is completed and prior to the application of the final surface layer.

Agbi reiterated the Governor’s demand for high-quality infrastructure work, assuring the contractor that the Project Monitoring Team would support this commitment to quality.

He repeated these instructions at the Oleh roundabout, emphasizing the necessity of proper sub-grade stabilization before applying the final surface layer.

The Special Adviser who was also at the Ellu/Aradhe Ughelli Asaba sector, met the supervisor and once again insisted on the need for high-quality work.

The contractor confirmed that they were currently working on the road’s shoulder and agreed to invite the Projects Monitoring Team to inspect the compacted shoulder before applying the final surface layer.

He urged the contractor (CCECC) at the Ogwashi-Ukwu bridge sector to expedite their work while maintaining quality, as “this was a critical section of the road”.

Agbi questioned the site engineers about the apparent lack of progress at the site, noting that it appeared as though work had been abandoned.

The site engineers clarified that they had not demobilized and were waiting for the rain to stop before resuming work.

The Special Adviser underscored that the Governor expects high-quality work across all projects in the state, highlighting the importance of the quality of roads across Delta State.
