JUST IN: Soldiers Rescue 13 Abducted Zamfara Varsity Students, 3 Others
The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) in Zamfara has confirmed that 13 students and three additional individuals who were abducted by gunmen on September 22nd have been successfully rescued.
The university made the announcement through its verified Twitter handle, @officialFUGUS.
The institution expressed gratitude to the military for their swift and courageous efforts in rescuing the students.
“In a remarkable turn of events, 16 individuals, 13 students and three labourers have regained their freedom, thanks to the swift and courageous efforts of the military.
“We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Almighty for granting them the strength and resilience to endure this ordeal.
“The rescue operation, conducted by the dedicated members of the military, demonstrated unwavering commitment to the safety and security of our citizens,” it stated.
According to PRNigeria, the recent operation brings the total number of rescued students and workers to 22.
Prior to this, six female students from the university had already been rescued by the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin-Daji.
The female students were taken from their rented hostels near the university campus, while the gunmen also abducted nine construction workers from GUPRAN Engineering Services Ltd, who were working on a project at the university.
