Former Federal Inland Revenue Service’s Coordinator for Delta, Edo and Rivers States, Hon. Joel Onowakpo-Thomas, has declared his intention to contest for the Delta South Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election.

BIGPENNGR.COM reports that Onowakpo-Thomas, a seasoned Chartered Accountant turned politician, announced his interest to run via his verified Facebook page on Friday.

The erstwhile chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, (DBIR), who contested the Isoko Federal Constituency seat in the 2019 general election, said that he was running again after his earlier decision not to run in the 2023 election.

He wrote; “I know you must have been inundated with the rumour that I am contesting once again. Yes, it is true, I am running for the position of the Senate, to represent the amazing people of the Delta South Senatorial District at the National Assembly in Abuja”.

He said he had 99 percent made up his mind not to contest in 2023 but his desire was outweighed by God’s one percent purpose for him to represent the good people of Delta South at the upper legislative chamber.

“Long ago I said there is 99% assurance that I may not contest in 2023, But I left 1% out because I know the place of God in human affairs. Today let me reiterate, that Godly 1% has surpassed my 99%”.

While saying that his decision to throw his hat on the ring in Delta South was taken in the best interest of all, he expressed apologies to those who had consulted him before now and went home with the impression that he was not going to contest.

He, however, thanked party faithful and supporters who stood firmly behind him three years ago when he offered himself for election as Isoko Federal Constituency House of Representatives member under the APC family, expressing gratitude for the unflinching confidence reposed in him till day.

Onowakpo-Thomas solicited for support of Delta southerners as he go through another “uncommon challenges in our march of progress to bring development to our people”.

“I am very grateful for your support and understanding in the difficult periods we have journeyed through.

“Finally, I am overwhelmed by the trust, confidence, and support of the various organs of our party here in Isoko, and across the Senatorial district”, he added.
