A Central Bank of Nigeria situated in Makurdi, Benue state capital, has been gutted by fire.
BIGPENNGR reports that the fire broke out early hours of Thursday, April 21.
Witness said that the inside of the bank building was badly burned but it was too early to determine the cause of the fire and estimate the damage.
The fire was said to have started from the fuel dome of the bank located at the Old GRA area of the State capital.
It was learnt that before the fire could spread to the main building, staff of the bank and members of the community had called in fire service to the scene.
Director of Benue State Fire Service, Engr. Donald Ikyaaza told newsmen that he was informed of the fire outbreak through a phone call and swiftly mobilized fire fighters to the scene.
“It was actually a huge fire which started at the company’s fuel dome but my men rushed to the scene and put out the fire before it could spread to other parts of the bank. Everywhere is calm now,” Ikyaaza said.
Meanwhile, normalcy have since returned to the area as the fire was totally quenched as at 9:30am.
