JUST IN: Gunmen Free Abducted Bayelsa Journalist, Osahon

Gunmen have released abducted former chairman of Federated Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council, Mr. Julius Olusegun Osahon.

Osahon who was abducted on Monday, March 29, was released Friday night according to information shared on Delta State Council NUJ WhatsApp platform by a member of national executive council of the NUJ, Chief Festus Ahon.

 

It was not clear how Osahon regained freedom from his captors but the post read; ‘Our kidnapped colleague, Mr Osahon working in Bayelsa state has been released in Ughelli, Delta State. He is in stable condition. From Edo council chairman’.

 

Recalls Osahon, a Bayelsa State correspondent of the Guardian Newspaper and other passengers in a commercial bus owned by Sunny Eru Motors were kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen along the Patani axis of the East-West road.

The armed men shot dead the driver of the vehicle and took the 18 passengers including the journalist.

 

The gunmen had earlier demanded  N5million ransom for the release of the journalist but later asked for N50 million naira. It was not clear if any ransom was paid however for his release Friday night.
