Tragedy As Train Crashes Mother, Daughter To Death In Delta
Tragedy on Thursday occurred at Orhuwhorun community, Udu Council area of Delta state as a passenger train, plying the Itakpe – Warri railway, crushed a mother and her daughter to death.
BIGPENNGR understands that the train crashed the deceased persons who were reportedly returning from where they went to fetch firewoods.
Local sources from the area said that the incident which has threw the community into mourning mood, happened around 3:40pm in the Aragba area of the community when the deceased persons were trying to cross the train tracks.
“The woman who went to fetch firewoods for one of her daughter traditional marriage and another of her daughter, a teenager, were walking on the rail tracks when the unfortunate incident happened”, one source said.
Although details of the incident were sketchy as of time of filing this report, one source in the area says the woman who is known for selling Moi-moi and her daughter died apparently because they didn’t hear the blurring horns of the train.
“We learned that on hearing the sound of the train, the daughter tried to get her mother out of the tracks, but was knocked down alongside the mother”, the source disclosed.
“From what we heard, the mother was ran over by the train, while her daughter was knocked off the rail tracks, where her body laid.
“What I don’t understand was how they couldn’t hear the train horn. The train usually blow it’s horn so loud that it is hard to say you didn’t hear it. So I don’t know why the victims could not escape the train.
Investigation revealed that the train was bound for the Ujevwu Train Station in Udu and scheduled to return to Itakpe in Kogi later today but it was not clear if it has return to the area which has been thronged by irate youths.
State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the incident.
